Cisco - keeping Oxfam Australia connected
In 2007, Cisco's ANZ Civic Council generously donated a Cisco Unified Communications system to Oxfam Australia. This project, a year in the making, builds on the well-established global relationship between Cisco and Oxfam
International. Cisco has provided Unified Communications applications and handsets for use in Oxfam's Australian and overseas field offices.
This system, developed in collaboration with Commander, is helping Oxfam Australia realise a "one agency, one network" information systems strategy. Oxfam's response to emergency situations will benefit from the real-time sharing of information through the voice and web conferencing made possible by the new system. Oxfam Australia will be able to record online meetings and share them with other stakeholders through online portals. This improved collaboration will reduce travel, which in turn will reduce costs and greenhouse gas emissions.
Tony Wright, Cisco ANZ Civic Council chair and head of Cisco marketing ANZ, said: "Cisco is proud to work closely with Oxfam, and use technology to help them meet their needs. This is about more than simply writing a cheque.
The human network is about connecting information systems to people when the people need the information, including in the field, where it can make a real difference to people's lives."
Cisco staff volunteers also provided invaluable technical support for the Oxfam International Youth Partnerships Kaleidoscope 2007 event and look forward to other opportunities to work with Oxfam Australia.
